FAQs

What is OncoYoga?

1

OncoYoga is a gentle, therapeutic approach to yoga designed specifically for people undergoing or recovering from cancer treatment. Sessions are adapted to support your body and mind through the physical and emotional challenges during or after treatment.

Do I need any prior yoga experience?

2

Not at all. Sessions are suitable for complete beginners. Everything is guided at your pace, with clear instructions and modifications throughout.

Is it safe to practise yoga during chemotherapy?

3

Yes, when appropriately adapted. Sessions are designed with your treatment in mind, focusing on gentle movement, breathwork and rest. It’s always recommended to check with your clinical team before starting.

What are the benefits of yoga during treatment?

4

Many people find that yoga helps with:

  • Managing fatigue

  • Promoting overall physical and emotional well-being

  • Enhancing relaxation, flexibility, and strength through gentle, adaptive movement

  • Supporting mental and emotional resilience during and after treatment

What does a typical session involve?

5

Sessions usually include a combination of:

  • Gentle, supported movement

  • Breathing techniques

  • Relaxation or guided rest

  • Mindfulness practices

Everything is tailored to how you’re feeling on the day.

I feel very tired—can I still take part?

6

Yes. Fatigue is common during and after treatment, and sessions are designed with that in mind. You’re encouraged to rest whenever needed, and even simply focusing on breath or relaxation can be beneficial.

What if I have limited mobility or physical restrictions?

7

All sessions are adapted to your individual needs. Movements can be done seated, lying down, or with support. There’s no expectation to push beyond what feels comfortable.

Can yoga and somatic movement help with anxiety or emotional stress?

8

Many people find that the mindful movement, breathing and relaxation techniques can help to calm the nervous system and reduce feelings of anxiety. It also offers dedicated time to focus on yourself.

Do I need any special equipment?

9

No specialist equipment is required. I will supply yoga mats, blocks, and anything else we need. If you have your own, you are, of course, welcome to use them.

Are sessions one-to-one or in groups?

10

Both options are available, depending on your preference. One-to-one sessions offer a highly personalised approach, while small-group sessions with companions you know can provide a sense of shared experience and community.

How often should I practise?

11

This varies from person to person. Even one session per week can be beneficial. The focus is on consistency and listening to your body rather than intensity.

What if I’m having a difficult day during treatment?

12

Sessions are flexible. If you’re having a difficult day, the session can be adjusted to focus entirely on rest, breathwork or restorative yoga where the body is supported by props and the focus is on being rather that doing.

Can I continue after my treatment has finished?

13

Yes. Many people choose to continue yoga after treatment as part of their recovery, helping rebuild strength, confidence and overall wellbeing.

How do I get started?

14

You can begin with an initial conversation to discuss your needs, treatment stage and any concerns. From there, sessions are tailored specifically for you.
